It’s Pack a Backpack Time – We Need Your Help!

With the beginning of August comes the beginning of the back to school season! For most families, this means a trip to the store to stock up on backpacks and school supplies so that their children will start the school year off with all the necessary tools.

For some families, providing their children with the required school supplies is a financial hardship. As one of the PCEF flagship programs, Pack-A-Backpack assists these families in need, so that their children arrive at school on the first day with all the tools they need to be successful in the classroom.

Over the past 9 years, the Pack-A-Backpack program has been providing backpacks and school supplies to pre-school through high school students in the Phoenixville area. Through the generosity of local businesses, churches, and community members, PCEF has distributed over 3,100 backpacks and thousands of dollars in school supplies to these families in need.

PCEF is currently accepting donations of school supplies. Items we can use are:

  • #2 pencils
  • 2-pocket folders with or without fasteners
  • 1-subject spiral notebooks
  • Pens – red, black or blue
  • 8 count, 16 count or 24 count crayons
  • 12 count colored pencils
  • Large glue sticks
  • Erasers
  • Highlighters
  • Notebook paper packs
  • Composition books
  • 1″, 2″ or 3″ 3-ring binders
  • Children’s scissors
  • Pencil boxes
  • Backpacks

Drop boxes have been placed in the lobbies of the Phoenixville Federal Bank buildings located at 120 Main Street in Phoenixville and at 533 Kimberton Road in East Pikeland. Supplies may also be dropped off at the PCEF office located on the second floor of the Phoenixville Federal Bank building on Main Street.

If you would prefer to make a monetary donation and let us do the shopping, you may mail a check to:

PCEF’s Winter Fundraiser Raises Record Amount for Education!

Drumroll please…

Our Winter fundraiser held on February 22 at Rivercrest Golf Club and Preserve raised a record amount of $71,000!

This is a 33% increase over last year’s fantastic event, and it is completely due to the generosity of our auction donors, corporate sponsors and supporters who came out to enjoy the evening.

Guests were treated to a Student Showcase, where representatives from 12 student groups were on hand to show exactly how PCEF funds help them in their mission.

The dinner opened with a quick request for pledges called Fund a Cause. Former PCEF president Joe Little solicited donations from guests in the audience and quickly raised $12,000 on the spot! Fund a Cause proceeds will go towards the Pack a Backpack and Activities Access Programs. Read more about them HERE.

The rest of the night included a buffet dinner and silent and live auction, plus lots of fun mingling with other PCEF supporters.

Vanguard and PCEF Partner on Computer Donation to PASD

For a high school student, computers have largely replaced paper and pencil for most activities.  From research to papers and even classroom discussions, almost everything is being done online.  If a student doesn’t have access to a computer at home, he/she is placed at a distinct disadvantage.

Vanguard and the Phoenixville Community Education Foundation (PCEF) teamed up to make sure all of the students at Phoenixville Area High School have the tools they need to succeed.  Twenty computers were recently donated to the school, and will be available for students to “check out” through the school library, for both short and long-term use.
